Gubbio is the land of San Francesco, who has left important marks of his passage giving us the Vittorina Church, along the Franciscan path. Other meeting houses are: the Basilica of Santa Chiara, the Basilica of Saint Rita from Cascia, the Porziuncola and the Sanctuary of Madonna dei Bagni.
Thousands years of history left to this land an important archaeological heritage. In Gubbio, you can admire the Roman theater, the mausoleum of Pomponio Grecino, the “tavole eugubine”, but also many ruins of the Etruscan civilization.
Besides art, there is a craft tradition that dates back centuries. Handicraft in Umbria kept traditions and habits from the past, every activity is linked to old method of production.
Deruta’s pottery dates back to Etruscan period and describe the daily life of people. A ceramic that has been able to transform everyday objects into art.
Gubbio is linked to the production of hand-painted majolica, brought to world prominence in the Middle Age with the famous Mastro Giorgio’s ceramic. Finally, the prestigious production of Gualdo Tadino, where craftsmen are still making pottery “reflected in the third fire”.
